Carrying a compact kit of materials and tools, I traveled with a single parameter in mind: one piece of paper for each day away. This pseudo-rule became a quiet compass, giving shape to the day and keeping me in pursuit of creating its piece. The unpredictability of my circumstances invited experimentation, play, and small acts of risk into the work. With only enough 4 by 4-inch squares to match the days ahead, I grew protective of each one — yet found a freedom in returning to the same piece again and again, to let it shift and reveal itself fully over time.
